The Wonderful World of Web 2.0!
This term’s meeting we looked at some great Web 2.0 tools that are;
  • simple to use
  • take 5 minutes to learn
  • do not require students to have an email address
  • can be easily incorporated into your lessons.....tomorrow!

Today's Meet

Today's Meet allows you to set up your own free chat room/backchannel for students to discuss class projects, readings, big ideas or to make plans, respond to a video, evaluate a science experiment. The uses are endless!

Answer Garden

Answer Garden is a minimalistic feedback tool. Use it as a tool for online brainstorming or embed it on your wiki, in Ultranet or on your blog as a poll, guestbook, survey or brainstorm/response tool

Slideful is a free online photo slideshow creator. Create slideshows of up to 20 images to embed on your wiki, in Ultranet or on your blog.
Wordle & Tagxedo

Wordle and Tagxedo are free word cloud creators that allow you to create word pictures to download. Tagxedo is a bit more complex to use, but allows you to create word clouds in shapes.

Flaming Text & Graffiti Creator

Flaming Text and Graffiti Creator are free online text generators that allow you to download the finished text as an image file. These can be uploaded to online spaces.

Sumo Paint

Sumo Paint is a free online drawing tool that allows you to save finished drawings to the desktop. Quite a sophisticated tool, great for upper primary and secondary students.
sumo paint.png is a free brainstorm and concept mapping tool that allows you to export your concept map as an image file.

NB. You do need an account if you want to save your work online.

PrimaryWall is an online sticky note tool designed for schools that allows pupils and teachers to work together in real-time. Like WallWisher but has a bad language filter and will allow you to send your words to Wordle.

Wolfram Alpha is a search engine with a difference!
Type in what you would like to know or a maths problem and let Wolfram Alpha provide the answers

Make Believe Comix allows students to get creative and develop their own comics.....perhaps as a way of synthesizing their learning around an essential question!

Socrative is a student response system that allows teachers to engage their classrooms through a series of educational exercises, quizzes and games via smartphones, laptops, and tablets.


AudioBoo allows you to create, record and share audio files. can be embedded into Ultranet and other web sites.

Box of Tricks is a great A-Z list of web 2.0 tools and resources that work well in classrooms. Most require an email address, but the content here is definitely worth a look!
